Anna Tomczak at Amiro Art + Design

First Friday Artwalk - April 3rd  5-9 pm

Anna Tomczak from Lake Helen, Fl. creates large format Polaroid transfers of found object assemblages and botanicals. Known for teaching workshops abroad, Tomczaks' images are romantic, nostalgic and fraught with symbolism.

Her work is in corporate, private and museum collections around the world. A highly acclaimed photographer, she has been featured in the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Norton Museum of Art and the Polaroid Corporate Art Collection, to name just a few.

Her exhibition and accompanying book 'Sanctuary' was curated by Barbara Hitchcock, Polaroid’s director of cultural affairs and curator of the Polaroid Collections, who said of her work

“Anna Tomczak’s photographs are beautiful, yet they are heavily layered with ideas, histories, remembrances and emotion. She delves into hidden places in her psyche to resurrect and interpret what is captured there, using it to reenergize souvenirs of past lives. Perhaps a blood-red calla lily draws our attention to a photograph. Stop. Look twice. This could be the beginning of a journey into another time and another place. The clues are there for you to see and ponder."
