2011 Fiesta de Aviles

Mark your calendar for the 2011 Fiesta de Aviles, a three-day event, to be held on Aviles Street in the Old City's Downtown.  The fun starts October 7 during the First Friday Artwalk and continues at 5pm on October 8 (Saturday) with the Second Annual Running of the Bulls, an activity that mimics the famous Spanish festival begun in the 14th century.  Flagler College students imitate the bulls and chase local business owners and neighbors as they dash down Aviles and compete for prizes. The public is invited to participate (Choose a side or be a bull or be chased). Also on Oct. 8, live music will be featured from noon to 10 p.m. including Luis Mario’s Latin Jazz Trio in late afternoon and reggae artists Scholar’s Word in the evening. Flamenco dancers also will perform. The street will be closed to traffic from 4 to 10 p.m. On Oct. 9, the fiesta continues with "Sangria Sunday" as Aviles Street restaurants, merchants and art galleries compete for the finest Fiesta Sangria.
